The other day I received a margin call on my Tastyworks account and I called to find the bitter truth about it. Apparently if you perform a day trade the buying power is not returned to you until two days afterward. After a few lengthy emails I got to the bottom of it, they said the clearing firm that they work with forces their brokerage to operate in this way. I’ve used many different platforms in the past, and this, to my knowledge is the only brokerage that calculates buying power in that way. I’m just out here cautioning this to you guys, so you know to be careful out there trading on the tastyworks platform. This debacle has slightly shifted my opinion on the new brokerage to a slightly less favorable opinion. However I do still think it’s good for beginner options traders.
